Net Neutrality Day of Action

Net Neutrality Day of ActionThis past week, some of the largest names in the consumer technology space gathered together to show their support for Net Neutrality, a series of overturned laws that ensured the internet would stay free and open to the public while also ensuring that users’ browsing data couldn’t be sold to advertisers.

Some of the groups in attendance included Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook and even AT&T, just to name a few.

Here’s what some of the nation’s tech leaders, companies and media outfits had to say about this historic event:

Tim Berners-Lee – Founder of the World Wide Web

“Do you want a web where the cable companies control the winners and losers online? Do you want a web where the cable companies determine which opinions are read – which creative ideas succeed – which innovations actually manage to take off? If we lose Net Neutrality, we lose the internet as we know it.” – Source Link

Alexis Ohanian – Co-Founder of Reddit

“Net neutrality gives new ideas, online businesses, and up-and-coming sites—like Reddit was twelve years ago—the opportunity to find an audience and grow on a level playing field. Saving net neutrality is crucial for the future of entrepreneurship in the digital age.” – Source Link

Mark Zuckerberg – CEO of Facebook

“Right now, the FCC has rules in place to make sure the internet continues to be an open platform for everyone. At Facebook, we strongly support those rules. We’re also open to working with members of Congress and anyone else on laws to protect net neutrality.” – Source Link

Google – Help Preserve the Open Internet

“The net neutrality rules that protect the open internet are in danger of being dismantled. Internet companies, innovative startups, and millions of internet users depend on these common-sense protections that prevent blocking or throttling of internet traffic, segmenting the internet into paid fast lanes and slow lanes, and other discriminatory practices. Thanks in part to net neutrality, the open internet has grown to become an unrivaled source of choice, competition, innovation, free expression, and opportunity. And it should stay that way.” – Source Link

Wired – The Net Neutrality Fight Doesn’t End With the Day of Action

“[This week’s] digital protest is an important effort to help preserve the net neutrality rules that help uphold a free and open internet. It’s also not enough. Keeping the current rules on the books—or replacing them with new, enforceable rules from Congress—requires steady pressure, ongoing on public officials.” – Source Link
